Guidance on Social Responsibility
People worldwide now demand that organizations behave in a socially responsible manner. An internationally developed standard shows how and the benefits of doing so.
The standard provides guidance on the underlying principles of social responsibility, recognizing social responsibility and engaging stockholders, the core subjects and issues pertaining to social responsibility and on ways to integrate socially responsible behaviour into the organization.
All types of organizations in the private, public and non-profit sectors, whether large or small, can find this standard useful. For one, all core subjects discussed in the standard are relevant to the organization such as on human rights, labour practices, environment, fair operating practices, consumer issues and community involvement and development. All the core subjects comprise a number of issues, and it is an individual organization’s responsibility to identify which issues are relevant and significant for the organization to address through its own considerations and through dialogue with stakeholders.
Every organization is being encouraged to become more socially responsible by using the standard.
The international standard providing guidance on social responsibility, ISO 26000:2010, has been adopted as a Philippine National Standard by the Bureau of Product Standards.
Printed copies of PNS ISO 26000:2010 is available from the Standards Data Centre of the BPS.
