The Bureau of Product Standards (BPS) through its International Relations Group also known as Action Team (AT9), performs and oversees activities concerned with regional and international affairs of the Bureau paticularly on the development of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRA) in a bilateral and multilateral level.
MRAs are agreements that recognizes the technical competence of the MRA partners such that each party are allowed to test and certify their products to the requirements of the other party prior to export.
BPS monitors development in international and regional fora such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation - Sub-committee on Standards and Conformance (APEC - SCSC), Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) related to Standards and Conformity Assessment activities; and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) particularly its Committee on Developing Country Matters (DEVCO) and related to Regional Liaison Officer function of BPS.
AT9's functions also involve updating all relevant standardization laws to make them responsive to local needs, global trends and development to ensure consumer protection and competitiveness of industry and providing comments on proposed legislations.
