consumeratbp.jpgThe DTI Consumer Welfare and Trade Regulation Group (CWTRG), led by its Bureau of Product Standards (BPS), conceptualized a partnership among the government, industry and media that would work on the information campaign on product quality and safety for the protection of consumers.  This campaign is implemented through a radio program entitled, "KONSYUMER ATBP."

On 15 February 2005, the DTI-CWTRG forged a MOA among the Philippine Product Safety and Quality Foundation, Inc. (PPSQF) and the ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation for the airing of the "KONSYUMER ATBP." (KATBP) over the AM Station, DZMM at 630 kHz, to educate the consumers in the Greater Manila Area and some parts of Visayas and Mindanao, for 13 episodes or one season.

The DTI, in cooperation with the DZMM and the PPSQF, and in coordination with the DepEd, began the production of episodes on consumer rights and responsibilities and on the safety and reliability of products and services based on standards.

KATBP was launched on 19 February 2005 over DZMM 630 kHz with its anchors DZMM's Palengke Queen Winnie Cordero and by DTI's Kampeon ng Konsyumers Intellectual Property Philippines' Director General Adrian "Che" Cristobal, Jr.

KATBP, which is heard every Saturday from 10:00 to 11:30 in the morning, has five (5) segments, namely, Batas ng Konsumer, Bantay Bilihin, Consumer 101: School on the Air, Strictly Pinoy, and Ugnayang Konsyumer.
