PNS on Self Ballasted Lamps

The Department of Trade and Industry’s Bureau of Product Standards (DTI-BPS) informs the concerned sectors that the International Standard IEC 60968:2012 – Self ballasted lamps for general lighting services – Safety requirements has been adopted as PNS IEC 60968:2012.

 The standard specifies the safety and interchangeability requirements, together with the test methods and conditions, required to show compliance of tubular fluorescent and other gas-discharge lamps with integrated means for controlling starting and stable operation (self-ballasted lamps), intended for domestic and similar general lighting purposes having a rated wattage up to 60W; a rated voltage of 100V to 250V; and Edison screw or bayonet caps.

 The adoption and approval of the BPS was based upon the recommendation of the Technical Committee on Lamps and Related Equipment (BPS/TC 4). The members of the BPS/TC 4 are composed of representatives from the government, industry and professional association, manufacturer, academe, research institution and testing laboratory.

 The standard will promote a common understanding among concerned sectors and provide a level playing field for businesses as well as ensure the safety of the general public.
