Following the Bureau of Product Standards Testing Center’s (BPSTC's) accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 for the field of electrical testing in July 2010 by the Singapore Accreditation Council Singapore Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (SAC-SINGLAS), it has reached another milestone on 06 March 2012 by becoming a listed testing laboratory under the ASEAN EE MRA. Signed by the ASEAN Economic Ministers on 5 April 2002, the EE MRA facilitates intra-ASEAN trade in EEE through reducing technical barriers to trade of regulated EEE.
BPSTC’s designation under the ASEAN EE MRA reflects the continuing efforts of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) of assisting the country’s EEE industry sector easier access to the ASEAN market.
As a listed testing laboratory, the regulated EEE products tested by BPSTC will be accepted by other ASEAN Member States regulators in accordance with the scope of the designation of the respective ASEAN Member States without having to undergo another similar testing. This will reduce the time, effort and costs of Philippine companies placing their EEE products in the ASEAN market.
The Philippine EEE sector could now select among the four (4) listed testing laboratories in the Philippines under the ASEAN EE MRA to test their products prior to export to ASEAN Member States following Solid Laguna Corporation Testing Laboratory (SLCTL), TUV Rheinland Philippines, Inc., and Scientific Environmental & Analytical Laboratory and Services, Inc. (SEALS).
