The Department of Trade and Industry’s Consumer Protection Group (DTI-CPG), through the Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS), conducted a two-and-a-half-day Seminar-Workshop on Protocol and Social Graces held last 24-26 January 2018 at the Bureau of Investments Conference Room.

The DTI-BPS, in implementing its functions such as the Philippines’ National Standards Body (NSB), the regulatory arm for the safety of critical products, and the National Notification Authority (NNA) and National Enquiry Point (NEP) for the World Trade Organization Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (WTO-TBT), participates as host, chairperson and delegate in international and regional assemblies, conferences, negotiations, meetings, discussions, programs, workshops, seminars, and activities.

In anticipation of the international and regional engagements this 2018, the BPS initiated, in cooperation with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), to conduct the Protocol and Social Graces workshop facilitated by the DFA-Foreign Service Institute. The Institute designs and organizes training programs appropriate to the needs of personnel of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and those of other government agencies who will be assigned to Philippine foreign service posts. It undertakes independent research on issues relevant to international relations and foreign policy as well as policy studies in aid of foreign policy formulation, management, and evaluation.

“It is essential for the DTI-BPS to possess the full understanding of the protocols and social graces relevant to its participations in various international and regional engagements while promoting the Philippines’ positions and programs.” DTI-BPS Director-in-Charge Engr. James Empeño underscores.
