Scope:

G TBT N ISR 594

The existing Mandatory Standard, SI 110 part 2, dealing with flat cement sheets reinforced with asbestos fibres, will be declared voluntary as part of the cancelation of this standard.

On March 2011, the Knesset (Israel Parliament) approved the Prevention of Asbestos Hazards and Harmful Dust Law, initiated by the Ministry of Environmental Protection. The law prohibits new uses of asbestos and requires the gradual phase out of friable asbestos in public buildings, industrial facilities and Israel Defence Forces (IDF) vehicles and equipment, in order to prevent the health hazards associated with exposure to this carcinogen. Following passage of this law, it became legally necessary to cancel SI110, Part 2 in order to prevent approved flat cement sheets reinforced with asbestos fibres from entering Israel.
